The traditional purpose of Lent is the penitential preparation of the believer—through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial.
During Lent, many of the faithful commit to fasting or giving up certain types of luxury as a form of penitence. (Thank you, Wikipedia) :D
And so in observation of Ash Wednesday / the beginning of Lent today, Dallas and I will be fasting from something of our choice for the next 40 days, to be ending on Easter Sunday.
I will be free of Facebook for the next 40 days. Although it is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, it is a luxury I want to see if I can give up for the next month or so. The Facebook app has been deleted off my phone and I'm signing out!
Dallas has chosen to give up caffeine for the next 40 days. He LOVES his energy drinks, Mnt Dew, and Dr Pepper, I'm so excited to see him give it all up till April!
Beginning today, Ash Wednesday, I will not use Facebook and Dallas will not consume caffeine for 40 days in remembrance of our Savior who fasted for 40 days and nights. Here's to the next 40!
